The students are back ::

“It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education.” —Albert Einstein

School’s back in session. The recently-arrived students here in Ithaca are demonstrating their illusions of immortality by walking in front of cars. While sometimes one misses the lazy quiet of summer, the students bring a bit of urban intensity with them. There were a few bunches of them at Red Letter’s gig on Friday 8 Sep. It was of those weird evenings combining evidence of an unprofessional lack of rehearsal (we’re not always good at maintaining the old tunes) with way-out improvisation. The free jam in the middle of Kiss Me You Fool was great ...

I found myself telling a friend the other day that my life began again when I went off to college, half-ignored my classes, and pursued my own interests in computers and music.

As a big 49ers fan (that’s a football team), I’m tempted to offer some cynical observation about the Deion Sanders media circus, but Jerry Rice really said it all.
