Getting ready to perform ::

We have our first two summer tour dates booked, August 16 and 18 in LA and San Francisco, respectively. More to come.

I’d been dreading arranging Where You Lay to play live; it’s melodically pretty simple, but in the studio we tracked all of the melodies on at least 2 or 3 different instruments, many of which were old analog synths, and Christoffer found nice ways to vary them in the mix.

Yesterday I spent some time with the built-in Logic synths and came up with quite passable substitutes for all of the sounds; they’re fairly basic analog patches. There was still the problem of how to control 5 synth sounds from 88 keys, not quite enough octaves to simply split them across the keyboard. The left hand is completely dedicated to a pretty active Minimoog bass part, so pushing buttons between phrases without goofing is difficult. Finally I realized that velocity switching would work: play a phrase quietly and one sound plays, play it forcefully, and another comes in on top.
