Record or bust! ::

I have a deadline! The piano tuner’s parting words were to enjoy my piano sounding great for a week (while freshly tuned); after that it would just sound “good.” And yesterday Lori called the roofer back for me and arranged for them to start on Tuesday morning.

So yesterday I got as far as setting up mics near the piano and running XLR cable into the studio. Then I realized, glumly, that I hadn’t run any music software in 14 months and had installed Leopard in the interim.

Logic 7 died horribly trying to validate AudioUnits. Absynth threw up complaints about being unregistered and auvaltool didn’t appear to allow the buttons to get clicked. I probably should have just removed Absynth but for some reason I chose to be a martyr and stew for 15 minutes until finally the only thing left to force quit was Logic.

Then I fired up Digital Performer 4.61 but couldn’t seem to monitor the mics. I went to import an audio file, unwisely chose a 45-minute-long improv recorded at a friend’s house 18 months ago (very curious what it sounds like) and DP crashed.

Then it was time to go back to Lori’s and squeeze blenderized food into my mouth with giant syringes.

Today I’ll give Logic 8 a try, get rid of the Native AU’s (at least for the moment), and if that fails, there’s a box of blank DAT tapes in my office in Cupertino.
