What is this?

SynthSpins! is the SynthSights MP3 weblog. Members of SynthSights submit their music to SynthSpins! for the group and others to enjoy. You do not need to be a member of SynthSights to download and listen to tracks in SynthSpins!, but you do need to be a member to submit tracks. All tracks submitted are verified as being from subscribed SynthSights members before being posted here. To subscribe to SynthSpins! in your favorite feed reader, click here.

If you are not familiar with newsfeed readers, check out this article on RSS. SynthSpins! simply uses RSS to distribute audio files. It’s really no different that just creating a web page with a bunch of links of MP3's. So why not just create a web page with a bunch of links of MP3's? To save you time. With an RSS feed your RSS reader will notice when new items come up. You will also be able to download MP3's directly from your reader and not have to come back to this site, unless of course you want to. You can also use your RSS reader to subscribe to other site’s feeds. Think of it as the lazy person’s way to get new content on a site. Some good readers are bloglines, NewsGator, and Google Reader.

Also, in iTunes, you can subscribe to SynthSpins! as a podcast. Choose Advanced -> Subscribe to Podcast and enter the link to the RSS feed. SynthSpins! is not a true podcast; iTunes will treat each MP3 as a separate “episode”.

If you do not want to use RSS, feel free to bookmark this page and remember to come back often to see what’s been added.

Cheers, and we hope you enjoy SynthSpins!

12 Jul 2006 Mark Mahoney/Michael Peck, Stars End Perfomance Michael Peck and I recently performed live on Chuck van Zyl's radio program, Stars End, in Philadelphia. Here's the first 9 minutes or so of the performance. There's a pic of us on our website performing in the beautiful WXPN-FM studio.

13 Jun 2006 ocp, soft This track was produced using a Red Square v.2 and a Macbeth Studio Systems M3X. Some delay was added.
12 Jun 2006 Brian Good, Dents Dents is a clangorous piece of asymmetrically-phrased pan-tonal electrojazz, the result of a cheap and sordid weekend infatuation with the whole-tone scale. My brother says it sounds like jazz from hell; I'd like to think he meant the Zappa album.
12 Jun 2006 Aether Drift, first narrative first narrative is one movement from Six Narratives for an Ensemble of Plug-ins. Garden-variety dark ambient.
11 Jun 2006 Sound Commandos, Into The Ether A short intro to the final tune on the Sound Commandos album.

4 Jun 2006 Charles Graef, Dolphins Under The Ice Swirly bluesy electric Celt-folk meets stoner trance rock. Standing on a shore staring at a body of water too long, until it breaks your heart, or maybe you've just had too much coffee, or not enough, but whatever it is, it won't solve this thing in front of you. Fake electric and acoustic guitars, mandolin, recorders, etc. Colossus, Trilogy, Stormdrum, Kontakt and Camel Space filters, Stylus RMX.
27 May 2006 Mercaptan, Graduation Day Once every few years I manage to finish a set of lyrics. These came out a bit Enoesque. Thanks to Megan Lynch for the vocals.
27 May 2006 Mercaptan, Taleggio I imagine this as the network theme music for some very dubious, second-tier sport. Maybe rollernerfball--like rollerball, except that instead of indulging in bloody mayhem they just hit each other with foam rubber bats.
27 May 2006 Mercaptan, Subjunctivitis I never wanted to be the Chuck Mangione of techno. It just kind of happened.
22 May 2006 Charles Graef, The Clotheslines Letting Go Influenced by Happy Mondays. All the shirts, pants, dresses, and skirts are letting loose from their clothesline atop a green grassy hill and swirling off into a wide blue sky. Panoramic groove with searching (fake, as usual) guitar. Colossus, Trilogy, RD700 piano, Camel Space filters, Stylus RMX.
17 May 2006 Charles Graef, Rudbeckia Praecox Trippy and euphoric, as if in some kind of incandescent field of nonexistent daisies. Add fretwork of polished hexagons and stir. Yamaha VSS-30 toy sampler, Colossus, RA, Stylus RMX. Kosta Potamianos has channeled from the piece a further episode in his serial drama involving penguins mystified by consumer-good relics in a deserted shopping mall in a distant future ice-age.
17 May 2006 ocp, sleeping aid Ambient soundscape...
14 May 2006 Matthew G Davidson, Family

6 May 2006 Fred Welsh, Shape VI Up tempo with deep bass drum. Can never have enough pulse-width modulation strings!
6 May 2006 Fred Welsh, Shape I This is the intro track to an album I did about a year ago. A number of people seem to like this one.
5 May 2006 Richard Wentk, Hubris Another in the Nzwrks series - this is another plug-in stack automated piece. (Anyone who gets all the way to the end is braver than I am.)

5 May 2006 Richard Wentk, dArK 5 x Absynth. Nothing else. Ouch.

1 May 2006 Charles Graef, "Unless It Rains Skunks" In the words of Mike Rubens: "Beatles-esque, cheerful, the kind of music that might be playing while a smiling character is lobotomized." RealGuitar, Kick Ass Brass, Colossus, Trilogy, Stylus RMX. Production style influenced by Jon Brion.
1 May 2006 Paul Maddox, Teleport Electronica with a beat, I've been told it sounds 'kraftwerky', judge for yourself. Originally written for the Onset of Illusion project, Teleport features the Hartmann Neuron, in fact the only part that is NOT Neuron is the vocal samples and reverb. No sequencers were harmed (or used) during the recording of this, everything was played live and multi-tracked into pro-tools.
